Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards have made the decision to pause our lifeguard operations on Southsea Beach due to Covid-19 outbreak.
Following the government guidance to social distance and remain home while the COVID-19 outbreak continues, PSVL will be pausing their lifeguard patrols on Southsea beach, which were scheduled to return this weekend for the first time in 2020. This decision was made to ensure the safety of our members during these extraordinary times.
We will continue to review this decision, and aim to be patrolling back on Southsea Beach as soon as it is safe to do so and within government guidelines.
PSVL members are still continuing to train however, by using alternate methods such as Zoom, a video conferencing application. This has enabled members to stay refreshed and keep skills up for when the season begins later this year. We are also encouraging new members to join our club. Now is the perfect time to keep yourself occupied by learning new skills which can be taught online, and then put into practice when we return to the beach.
If you are interested in joining the club, please visit our "Join Us" section of the website, or email email@example.com for more information.
During this time we highly discourage anyone who is thinking of going swimming or undertaking any activities on the water. Please take extra care when around the sea, especially while there is a huge strain on emergency services, however if you are in danger or see someone else in trouble please do not hesitate to call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard.
