Lifesaving Award

The Assistant Beach Lifesaving Award is designed to for those who aspire to become a Beach Lifeguard and the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification. It provides an introduction to the training, skill and knowledge required to achieve a beach lifesaving award.

 

Award Summary

The award will test:

· Beach Lifeguarding theory relating to the primary role of a lifeguard in preventing incidents.

· Open Water Rescue skills using a range of equipment to perform simulated rescues in the sea, including the torpedo buoy and rescue skis.

· Physical fitness

· Life Support to Life Support 1 level

· First Aid

The aim of the qualification is to establish a basic competence in open water lifeguard skills including water rescue and life support for persons aspiring to become Beach Lifeguards.

The award will develop fitness, knowledge and self discipline, the ability to deliver first aid, teamwork and public relations, the ability to observe a beach area and notify a Lifeguard of an emergency situation, the ability to take directions from a Lifeguard and to assist in the response to an emergency situation.

This award is a stepping stone towards the National Beach Lifeguard Qualification.
