Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards are one of the oldest voluntary lifeguard clubs in the UK, a founder member of the Solent Sea Rescue Organization (SSRO) and a registered charity.
We are based in Portsmouth on the promenade at Southsea, between the Pyramids Centre and South Parade Pier. We are affiliated to the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and through our training programmes, promote RLSS accredited courses for lifesaving, lifeguarding and first aid. We principally provide lifeguard cover for the beach at Southsea, although we are able to cover a much wider area than this with our range of rescue equipment, from surf skis to Portsea Rescue 1, a Ribcraft 5.85m.
In addition to the RLSS accredited programmes, we are able to provide either training and/or access to other specialized courses for first aid, VHF radio and boat work.
During the warmer months (May to September) we can be found at our HQ at the week-ends, providing lifeguard cover form 10:00 to 18:00, and 7 days a week cover during the school summer holidays.
Out training night is Tuesday which is generally held at the Victoria Swimming Centre, 20:00-21:00 for land based training, and 21:00-22:00 for pool based training. Through the school holidays, training is held at our HQ on the beach from 18:00-21:00
The club always welcomes new members and old ones, so please contact us.
